1557.0. "Tall Ship Sailing" by SUBURB::SAREV () Thu Jul 12 1990 10:02

I wonder if any one could help me??

a couple of years ago i went on sailing on a tall ship called
" T.S Royalist" it is a training ship, square rigger. i really had a
good time on it as i was part of the crew.

i am very interested in going sailing on a tall ship again, as part
of the crew, i understand there is a boat which caters for disabled
and abled bodied persons, i am very interested in going on a trip
with them, does any one out there have any information regarding
    this.

    many thanks

I will try to get some addresses.

Do you like to sail on the big russian sailship? The largest remaining
tall ship in the world ? I can get the address for that one.
The price is +- $450 per week.

if you could give me the address for the russian sailship i would
really appreciate it, if you have any more details on any tall
ships i would be really grateful.

I wonder if the Padua, Passat, and Pamir are former "P" Line ships.

1557.7Club Med IISNOC01::RADKEHOWARDSun Dec 13 1992 00:0828
The Club Med II was in Sydney this past week. Although she doesn't fit
the classic definition of a "Tall Ship" she is a modern version of a
commercial sailing ship - a cruise ship with sails.

Club Med II is two months old and is on a shake-down cruise in the
South Pacific. She cost $220 million (Australian) to build. She sails
    with a crew of 32.

Some of her stats are interesting: Maximum speed under sail is 14
knots, curise speed is 12 knots. LOA is 187 meters (613 feet), beam is
20 meters (65.6 feet), draft is 5 mteres (16.4 feet). Seven sails with
an area of 2,500 square meters (26,910 sq feet) supported by five
masts. Everything is controlled by hydraulics including the furlers, sheets
and booms. She uses "computerised ballast" and retractable stabilisers
to reduce heeling. They claim that during a Caribbean run Med I saved
53,311 liters of diesel by using the sails over 70% of the running
    time.

We watched her depart Sydney Friday evening. She was under full sail
passing the Opera House just prior to sunset. The sight was
    impressive.

In case anyone is interested she will be sailing out of Noumea for the
next six months or so (for tax reasons I am told) at a favorable rate.

    Cheers,

         Howard
