1556.0. "RIGGER NEEDED!" by ASDS::GARDINER (Architects-R-Us) Mon Jul 09 1990 17:44

    Does anyone have the names and address of any good rigging shops in the
    Boston area? Preferably in the West suburbs (Newton, Needham, Dedham,
    Natick, Framingham, etc.).

    I have had some work done by Kehoe's Chandlery in Hingham and have had
    some disappointment (my inner forestay had a fitting slip and the
    nicropress fittings on my outhaul parted).

    I need to replace a couple of lifelines and would like to find a good
    rigger that is close to me (Needham) and/or my yatch club (Braintree).

    Thanks,
    Jeff

1556.1Not close, but . . .STAR::PROULXMon Jul 09 1990 21:226
    They aren't near you, but Bay Sailing Equipment in Fall River does
    excellent work. They have accepted phone orders for shrouds in the
    past (unusual) and given me next day service by UPS. Just about as
    good as being near you.

1556.2Rigging Co.ABE::HASKELLTue Jul 10 1990 09:317
    Try the Rigging Co in Newport R.I.

    I used them and had great service (1 week).

    Had new Lifeline for my 30 Pearson made up. Only cost $160

    Monahan's Marine is right in Braintree. Maybe they'll do it.

    J. T.'s chandelry on Dorchester Ave in South Boston across from the
    MBTA train yards is a no-nonsense heavy duty commercial rigging outfit
    (booms for cranes and that kind of stuff). Easy access from the SE
    expressway or the Mass Pike extension.

    Bliss or Boat'r'us may also do rigging. They're close enough to be
    worth a try.

    If you want to drive, Forepeak in Marblehead and Marine Speculator in
    Salem have done rigging for me on a while-you-wait basis.

    For Nico-pressing, I highly recommend buying a wrench operated tool.
    The 1/8' size is about $15 and the 5/8" about $30. Worth every nickel.

    I have the tool .3 refers to (it doesn't do 5/8, I think he meant 5/16
    ?). You're welcome to borrow it depending on your location, if
    interested send me mail.

1556.5Another Good SourceWJOUSM::SCHLEGELTue Jul 10 1990 12:362
    Another excellent source is Marine Exchange, 128 Newbury St. (Rt. 1),
    Peabody, MA (508-535-3212). With UPS, easy to access.

    Correction to a previous reply. The rigger in South Boston is C. G.
    Edwards, Not J. T.'s. Next time your transatlantic cable frays,
    they're the folks to call. They also carry regular marine supplies and
    West Epoxy products.

    Zepher at Cape Cod shipbuilding in Wareham Ma did my rig over in 1985,
    I was pleased with the work and the price was reasonable.
