1476.0. "Daysailing Cape Cod ??" by ROYALT::NORMAN () Tue Apr 10 1990 16:14

           I'll be trailering a COMPAC 16 to Dennis on the Cape
           during school vacation - April 15--20. Rather than
           leave it in the parking lot, I thought it might be
           nice to get some "novice" sailing in before the crowds
           descend for the summer season.

           I'm looking for some tips on where on the Cape I might
           launch and be able to enjoy a 3 - 5 hour sail.

1476.1A ramp in E. FalmouthMSESU::ADAMSTue Apr 10 1990 18:5914

    I use a public (free) ramp and parking (free) lot in East Falmouth
    at Green Pond. Should have no problems with parking in the off
    season. During the season there is almost always a few parking spots
    available if you get there early. Ramp is not bad. Especially if you
    don't have to back in too far and it's not low tide. The end of the
    ramp drops straight down about 3' or 4'. It's about 200 yards to M.V.
    sound so it's quick out and in.

    If you need directions, send mail or reply here.

1476.2Pocasset/Barlows landing rampBOMBE::ALLAWed Apr 11 1990 11:4814
    Try Barlows Landing in Pocasset on Buzzards Bay (about 10-15 minutes
    from the Bourne Bridge)

    There is a ramp and parking for trailers. Pocasset harbor (Barlows
    Landing is part of it) is formed by Wings Neck and Scraggy Neck with
    Bassetts I between.

    Sail in the harbor or out into the upper part of the bay, go across
    to Bird Island, (about 3 miles) off Marion..

    Directions; Bourne bridge to rte 28 south, turn right on Barlows
    Landing
    Rd (sign for Pocasset,Wings neck) and drive 2 1/2 miles to the water.

    The town pier in Wellfleet has a launch ramp and ample parking
    available for cars and trailers.

    Sailing in Wellfleet harbor will introduce you to the advantages of a
    shallow draft or centerboard. Also, if the tides work out right, it is
    a nice sail/picnic combination to visit Great Island where you will see
    nobody ashore on most days.

1476.4There's quite a choice !ISLNDS::LANEThu Apr 12 1990 17:3422

    Sesuit Harbor in E.Dennis, near the junction of Rte 134 and 6A,
    has two excellent ramps with fine parking lots. Stickers or fees
    shouldn't be an issue in April. It's open water outside the
    harbor but should be near to where you're staying.

    Barnstable Harbor and Nickerson State Park have decent access and
    are protected, and are near you also. The park is good for kids,
    particularly if they're doing the sailing.

    If you're going all the way to Falmouth, try Waqouit Bay, Childs
    River etc. where there are two dirt ramps and parking. Pretty,
    protected, access to Vineyard Sound. Great spot, walk Washburn
    Island, sail Eel and Childs rivers, "go out and around" for a
    little excitement. About 7 miles to Vineyard Haven if you like.

    Then of course there's Pleasant Bay in Chatham/Harwich. A popular
    windsurfing, Hobie, and waterskiing spot.

    Pleasant Bay
    If you go all the way to Falmouth,
