1442.0. "Boston sailing suppliers" by SUTRA::JAHAN (CocoJAH, on the way...) Fri Feb 16 1990 08:36

    Hello from Valbonne!

I will be in the Boston area between feb 24th and mar 3d for a training
(the first in the US for me). So I would like to benefit from a whole
week-end to see the most things concerning sailing, and above all, a
good ship supplier where I could maybe find some unobtainable thing
    here, in France.
And of course, if some of you sailors participate in this MAC training,
(Nashua), I will be happy to meet you in the same time.

    Thanks in advance,

    . Pierre .

1442.1A boat show worth seeingSLSTRN::RONDINAFri Feb 16 1990 10:2211
    Salut, Pierre

In case you have not heard, the New England Boat Show will be running
from February 17-25 in the Bayside Expo Center, which is 2-3 miles
south of Boston. This show is the biggest boat show in the area.
Tickets are about $7 and can be bought at the door.

    Bonne Chance

    Pierre,

This boat show is the best opportunity to see a great deal of equipment
and boats collected from throughout New England - also a great place
to pick up catalogues for future mail order business.

Much better attended than earlier shows (e.g. Boston Sail Boat Show
and Worcester Show), this is the one preferred by dealers and suppliers.

If your schedule permits (like by getting here a day before your
meetings start in New Hampshire) you could stay in a hotel in Boston
and travel to the Show by cab. Driving in this area is not for
the faint of heart or for those unfamiliar with navigation in
    terrestial chaos. :-)

If you cannot make the show, you may wish to check out:

Marine Exchange - Peabody, Mass - Rte 1 South - a jammed store
with ok prices and great advice for those with a boat
    		repair problem.

Boat U.S. - Belmont, Mass. - kind of tricky to find but a larger
    		selection.

Bliss Marine - Rte. 128 - Reading, Mass. (near I 93) about the
easiest to find and get to, higher prices, fair selection, not
much in the way of customer assistance.

    bienvenu .....

    Ron

If you are dinghy sailor (Lasers, 4*0, etc.) or a Wind Surfer, you may want to
visit CAN AM Sailcraft in Cambridge. They are a superior store for some of the
specialized equipment used on these boats. The boat show may be a problem for
for visiting some of the stores and you may wish to call ahead to make sure
that they are open.

Directions to CAN AM will have to come from someone else but bascially they
are easily reached by taking highway I93 to one or two exits short of Boston.

Thanks a lot for these infos.
It's like summer here in Valbonne, hoping the Boston temperature is not
    too far down ;-)
