| Seasonal Greetings,
I would suggest that you place this question
in the European sailing notes files, ie: Sailing_UK & EUR_sailing
Do ring me on 893-3111, for more details.
Wishing a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year,
& a little sailing/dreaming in gentle breezes in between, before
the mad rush of the 1990's, to all our sailing-readers.

| My wife and I have twice, in the last 6 years, signed on for Greek
flotillas. Wonderful! Great balance between having advantages of
shared experiences and local knowledge with plenty of sail on your own
time. I think the company used was Island Adventures, local rep is in
Portland, Oregon. Time of year is critical. Would propose end of May
or early June. Later is very hot, earlier can be rainy.
I would be glad to share experiences with you.
Best of luck

| I have some experience with an outfit called GREEK PRIVATE SAILING
CLUB. They operate out of Kalamaki (a suburb of Piraeus, which is a
suburb of Athens), and have a variety of boats for charter. I chartered
a 41-foot Jenneau Sun Fizz, which was very well suited to the
conditions. There is a woman in Cambridge named Julie Nicholson who is
their contact in this area.
A caveat, however. In the late summer there is a wind called the
Meltemi which blows steadily at 35-41 mph, and makes cruising a little
hairy. We sailed through all of it, sometimes in 20 foot seas, but this
may not be to your liking. This wind is generally only in the Cyclades,
so if you stick close to Pelloponesus you will not encounter it.
Also, if you bareboat, as we did, make sure you have a complete set of
charts. You will find there are almost no navigational aids, at least
in the northern Aegean, and you will not be able to raise anyone on the
radio most of the time. The distances can be longer than you are used
to, and you will often be out of sight of land, so if you bareboat, be
sure you are up on your navigation.
If you want more info on contact the GPSC, contact me on e-net as

best wishes
