1312.0. "Cutty Bouys" by CSSE::COUTURE (Abandon shore) Mon Aug 21 1989 14:22

I haven't been to Cuttyhunk yet this season and am planning to go
this next weekend. Last year there was talk that the bouys south
of Cuttyhunk were going to be moved, renumbered, etc. I even
cut the drawing out of my notices to mariners. Unfortunately,
the Coast Guard quit sending me notices to mariners and phone
calls and letters have had no effect on getting them renewed.

Have the bouys north of Cuttyhunk been changed?

    Thanks

    Adam

the bouys east of penekese (sp?) have been changed. there is now a r & w bell
marking the n.e. entrance to cutty hunk. closer in there is a nun/can pair
marking the channel. the r&w bell replaces a green bell at the same position
(i think) and there has been a can (nun?) added to more clearly mark the south
side of the channel. caused me some consternation a couple of weeks ago. in
any event the bouyage is strait forward, but doesn't agree with the charts.
the north western approach has not changed to the best of my recollection.

I plan on visiting Cuttyhunk next month and haven't seen these new buoys on
recent "Chart kit" charts. I'd like to have my Loran loaded with these new
waypoints. Does anyone have the LL/TD's for these? If so, could you reply
here for all to share? Thanks in advance.

(Please include TD's as that is my preferred method of transferring waypoints
from one LORAN set to another).

I have the following for the former "7" BELL at Gull Island and R "6" located
at the end of the jetty.

FWIW, I'll answer my own question.

Well, I had good visibility the day I sailed to Cuttyhunk (from Red Brook
Harbor) with a pleasant breeze and comfortable seas, all in all a nice run.
Here's what I stored in my LORAN for the east channel entrance buoys.

BTW, the RW Channel Marker buoy was clearly closer to Nashawena Island than
the old #7 Bell. Also, the LORAN indicated a (magnetic) bearing of 053~
and a distance of 8.0 miles from the RW "CH" buoy to the "10" FL R 4 SEC GONG
in Buzzards Bay, to which it brought me within a boat length.
