1286.0. "Charter qualification course?" by WONDER::BRODEUR () Tue Jul 18 1989 13:56

Would anybody be interested (or need) in taking a charter qualification
course from Coastal Sailing School in Marblehead the first week in Aug. I
completed their Skippers course this May and would like to get the advanced
course in before the end of the summer. I have spoke with Bert Williams the
instructor and he has tentatively scheduled a charter qualification course for
July 31 through Aug. 4 although the 2nd and 3rd week in August are open also.
The first week would be the most convenient for myself however. I believe
that the classes will meet every afternoon from 1:30 pm till 5:00 pm. My
problem is that I am the only one registered for the course at this time and he
would like to see a minimum of three people in the class.

What is the class? It assumes that you have some sailing experience. I have
been renting Rainbow 24's from Bert this summer. BTW, sailing school graduates
get a 10% discount on rentals from Bert which include 1/2 day and full day on
the Rainbows and a Pearson 26. He will cover advanced sail trim, mooring,
running under power, anchoring, navigation, etc. I was very happy with his
teaching skills when I took the skippers class. He's been teaching sailing for
quite some time now. Oh yeah, the class boat is a Pearson 30 with depth meter,
loran, RDF, VHF and a few nicks and dings from previous classes.

If anyone is interested you can call Bert in the evening between 7:30 and 9:00
to find out more about the class. His number is 617-639-0553. I would also be
happy to talk with anyone about his classes in general or the charter
qualification . In any event, I will continue to rent from Bert and sail around
Marblehead even without this course. So, if you do have a boat moored in the
harbor it might be to your benefit to get me through this class :-)> Tell a
friend, neighbor or anyone on the street. I wanna learn!

ps. I'm also willing to crew for anyone that needs a hand. I'm not the most
experienced yet but I'm learning fast.

Almost forgot. It's somewhere around $250 for the 20 hours of class.
