| I should have also said that the Coast Guard does not register boats.
Registration is performed by various state agencies. It depends
in which state you will be doing your boating.
There are several files in this conference that discuss registration
of boats

1260.3 | Can have it documented | SQLRUS::EASTLAND | | Fri Jun 23 1989 12:50 | 11 |
| But you can have the vessel DOCUMENTED (I think its by the coastguard)
which means you dispense with the state numbers on the side of the
boat. You can do it yourself but you have to come up wwith a complete
history of the vessel. If you use a service like Hinckleys in Yarmouth,
Maine it costs about $400. Probably only worrth it if the boat is worth
a lot, if you intend to keep it for a long time or if financed. We had
it done on our 1969 Crealock-designed Columbia 36 - and it was painless
except for shelling out the bucks! (but boat owners are used to that).

1260.4 | Can't document a Venture | WBC::RODENHISER | | Fri Jun 23 1989 14:10 | 6 |
| Re: .3
This will only serve to confuse. A 23' Venture is NOT documentable.
There's lots of notes around that explain why, but it is a size issue.
