Can anyone tell me the significance of the 2.37 denominator within
the specification for a 12 metre yacht as raced in the Americas

In an artical in SAIL dated November 1986 the 2.37 is refered to
as "divided by the constant 2.37..." Another words it does not
tell you much about how they arive at the constant.
