1131.0. "Caribbean Cruising Handbook" by OBSESS::COUGHLIN (Kathy Coughlin-Horvath) Wed Feb 15 1989 13:39
This didn't quite fit any of the existing topics so I created a
new one.
I just finished reading "The Caribbean Cruising Handbook A Planning
Guide For Charterers And Private Owners" by Bill Robinson. It was
published in 1986 by Dodd, Mead and Co., NY. Many of you probably
know Bill Robinson as editor-at-large of Yachting magazine.
The book is only 126 pages, is easy to read and pretty much in
lay person's terminology. He doesn't go into major detail but enough
that I found helpful. It covers how to arrange a charter,
crewed or bareboat, what kind of boat to choose, how to get there,
clothes and gear to bring and best areas to visit. He advises where
to shop, eating ashore, what each island offers in way of good harbors
and attractions. Covers elements of seamanship, recommended cruising
itineraries and special advise to those who plan to sail their own
boats south.
In the back of the book is a list of cruising guides and where to
get them.
