1128.0. "Blocks and Bottom Paints" by MPGS::KTISTAKIS (Mike K.) Mon Feb 13 1989 10:52
Another couple of questions.By the way I would like to thank all
the people that have and continue to answer and give me advice on
my many inquiries. When I do the work I will give a report here on
what and how I did it.Now to the questions.
Although the boat has all the blocks needed, sizes on the skimpy side,
I would like to replace them two or three every year with better ones
and keep the old ones for spares. My first reaction will be to go
let's say with Schaefer's little bity winnies 09-05
sheet lead blocks 32-88 and fidle blocks 29-55 in other words all
these sizes, according to manufacture have a safe working load of
2750lb the blocks and I believe 2000-2450 lb the sheet lead blocks.
Now any offshore boat I have seen actual or in a picture it seems to
have much bigger,I would say 3"sheeve or greater, bklocks and most
of them are from teak. The question is are the Above mentioned Schaefer
blocks at least equal with these 3" teak blocks or save my money and
and go get teak block. And again if teak blocks is the way to go where
you find them I hardly see any in the catalogs.
The second question is how I tell what kind of buttom paint is on the
boat right now.I have to repaint and I understand that some kind of
paints are a no no to put on top of other paints.I mean how can I tell
that the present paint is vinyl or not.
Thanks in advance and don't go away.I have much more...for later.
