| And the REAL BOAT SHOW :-), New England Boat Show at the Bayside
Expo Center will be Feb 18-26
Entrance is $5.00 adult, $2.00 child
The folks at the BAyside Expo center are very accomodating about
working out a group rate package to deliver the tickets at half
price for any group - no stated minimum size, but 50-100 was suggested.
The deal could be that they sendout the tickets to a group on
consignment, the group sells what it can and returns the remainder
with a check for the tickets sold. Sounds too easy.

Well, can't say you guys weren't warned. ;^) There's gotta be a
dozen entries throughout this file from those of us who have burned
by this show in the past.

| I was so disappointed in this show that I demanded and received
my $6 back. Four sailboats...a Hobie, a Sunfish, a Holder 14, and
the Mac 26. No electronics, no gear, but they did have the Encyclopedia
Brittanica and a guy who sharpens knives. I stayed approx. 15 minutes!!

1095.5 | Sail Boat Show in Feb? | CIMAMT::CHINNASWAMY | do 75mph, DUKES indirect tax | Tue Jan 10 1989 09:17 | 10 |
| Two of us went and got burned twice as bad. We went Sat. am. and they
only had the 14' daysailer and the Mag. 26. I wish I had known that if
I complained loud enough I'd get my money back. I certainly would have.
I picked up a book there that said Boston is having a Sail Boat only
show around the 9th of Feb. Has anyone been to this one. Can I expect to
get burned and sizzled from this?

Is the New England Boat Show worth $2.50? Ron, are you getting the
tickets or did you just find out about the group discount? If anyone is
getting the tickets count me in for 10 tickets anyway.
I could use a boat fix! What do you say Sailors?????

| I *think* the Boston Sailboat show starts Feb. 18th.
Last year it was crowded but had lots of nice boats and equipment
to leave drool stains all over:-)

Check Employee Activities. Last year they hand discount tickets,
and here in Merrimack, they are listing the show under "upcoming events."

1095.10 | It's worth $2.50 | AKOV12::DJOHNSTON | | Tue Jan 10 1989 12:35 | 8 |
| As I recall, I got discount tickets at AKO, too. Still, not much
of a show, but probably worth $2.50. I got the new Eldridge at
a show discount that almost made up for the ticket price!
Planning on going this year just to check out foul weather gear.

| I do believe that this is the year to go to the boat shows...not
necessary for the show but rather for the bargains you can find.
And I bet they are going to be a lot of bargains.The soundings just
arrived today(I go home for lunch)and on the backpage advertisment
American sells the Micrologic Explorer loran for $549 including
coupler and antena.The last chance for 1988 West marine catalog
and a flyer from boatUS are asking almost $700.
Now some dealers on the shows they better match or better these
offers or bet on increase of the numbers of uninformed to attend.
I still say go.Count me in at the Bayside I need some blocks and lines.

1095.12 | Yet another boat show... | OURVAX::NICOLAZZO | Better living through chemistry | Tue Jan 10 1989 16:30 | 6 |
| I just received a flyer from Employee Services for $3.00 off
the ticket price ($7.00 down to $4.00) for the Boston Boat Show
at the World Trade Center, 1/28 - 2/5. Mind you this is not the
New England Boat Show at the Bayside, and it's mostly power boats
as i remember.

1095.13 | MA or MD | VOLVO::BENTLEY | | Wed Jan 11 1989 11:02 | 21 |
| Boston has three shows this year, one power, one sail, and one
combined. The sailboat show (?) is Feb 9-12 at the World Trade
Center. The combined show is at Bayside the following week (?).
I did not attend the Sailboat show last year (I wish I had) but
had a booth at Bayside. In the last three years Bayside has had
less and less sail products. There has also been a drop in attendance
(don't know if they are related). Last year was the worst yet.
There were very few people, except on weekends, and they were only
looking.
This year I wont be around for the Boston shows (vacation) but I
was thinking of going to the Annapolis (sp?) MD show. I have talked
to people who have been there and their descriptions are a sailors
paradise.
Are there any listeners from MD who have been to the sailboat show.
Is it as good as everyone says? And is it worth the 8-10 hr trip?

1095.14 | Good show (huge crowd and long drive) | DELPHI::KENNEY | | Wed Jan 11 1989 15:01 | 16 |
| I used to live in the Washington DC. area and went to the Annapolis
show every year. It was a real experience and I always had a good
time. But I would not drive 8-10 hours for the show but then I also
refuse to drive 1+ hours each way to sail. You have to decide if you
want to drive that far. Also it will be a long wait, the big in
the water show is not until October.
I hate crowds and would take an afternoon off from work. The crowds on
Saturday and Sunday are immense if the weather is good. The only time
I went on a weekend several of the floats were about 2 inches under
water due to excessive crowding. The last show I went to in 1986 most
of the boats were in the 36 and 50 foot range.
