1017.0. "a short trip..." by JULIET::KOOPUS_JO () Mon Oct 17 1988 17:19
well' i just finished my first coastal cruise from sf to half moon
bay, which is about 18 miles. we started from south beach marina
just below the bay bridge as the fog began to lift at 8:00 am.
we meet everyone else at the golden gate bridge, there were 12 boats
mostly catalina 30's. just as we got under way when the fog started in,
did i forget to say that this was fleet week? we met the fleet,
just outside the gate with 50 yds visibility. we quickly put a boat
with radar in front along with two other boats with lorans to chart
our way...to hell...no could agree on location as we went very close
to shore, 14ft of water with the waves braking!!! we finally made
it down as the fog lifted near half moon bay and we could see the
harbor markers and the shoals....
several drinks on shore made life much better...the sail back was
great because the weather was perfect 10-15 knots and 80 degrees
i learned that you should be self-sufficient..!
