943.0. "bristol Channel Cutter" by SKYLRK::MARCOTTE (George Marcotte SWS Santa Clara) Thu Aug 11 1988 12:47

    I would like to buy a boat in 5 years (its going to take my that
    to figure out what I want). I currently looking at 3 different
    Fiberglas boats: Sam Morse's Bristol Channel Cutter, Nor-Sea
    27, and Pacific Seacraft's Orion 27.

    Of the three the Bristol Channel Cutter looks the nicest and has the
    best cruising layout below. It is also the most expensive. I like the
    traditional look.

    Has any one sailed one? Any comments about the BBC or the other
    two boats.

943.1Charter each firstEXPERT::SPENCERJohn SpencerFri Aug 12 1988 14:5211
If you've given yourself five years to decide (and save up), then why not
plan to sail each for a while? I'm quite sure each builder can help you
find one of their boats to charter for a week.

Having done just that once myself, I can attest to the true economy of
making such an informed decision. Besides, if you order the boat new,
you'll have a much better idea of any changes and/or options you wish to
include or exclude.

943.2Comments on two out of three ...NSSG::STCLAIRMon Aug 29 1988 12:5217

    I crawled around on the Nor'Sea 27 when I saw one for sale in Mich.
    The Nor'Sea 27 can be kept on a trailer. Given how much moorings
    cost this is a consideration for me. The beam is limited and the
    space much reduced when compared to Sam Morse's boats.

    I personnaly think that Sam's boat is very nice based on what I
    have been able to find through research. I have never seen one.
    I am told that the space in Sam's boats seems tighter than expected
    by a friend that did sail on one. They said they thought the layout
    was the reason. As John suggested try one on for size and then
    with the time at your disposal you could figure out exactly what
    you want the interior to do (if what they have is not perfect for
    you).
