A suggestion :
The archipelago between Sweden and Finland. You get about 20.000-
30.000 islands, sheltered waters, (keen navigation), friendly
natives, the most beautiful archipelago in the world.
The area is about 200 nautical miles long (Helsinki, Finland ->
Stockholm, Sweden).
The whether is *not* predictable, this summer was 25-30 C for almost
a month, last year, 10-15 for three, but there is almost always a
force 3-5 wind.
Rentals are available in both countries, mostly sail-it-yourself.

Well I know one of good repute in Helsinki, it's not the cheapest
but I've not heard of any problems either :
Nautic Center
Veneentekijantie 1
00210 Helsinki
Finland
and the phone : +358-0-670271.
I'd expect that you'd find something a bit cheaper in Sweden, perhaps
some of you swedes can give a clue....

932.4 | Brittany Coast ? | CHEFS::GOUGHP | Pete Gough @REO | Tue Aug 09 1988 07:14 | 16 |
| There is some good challenging cruising to be had along the Brittany
Coast. It will not be flotilla but bareboat charter. I believe you
could charter from St Malo or The Channel Islands. If you charter
from France I think that they will require a full RYA Coastal Skipper
or Yachtmaster Certificate ie not just the shore based course....
The Channel Islands may be less rigorous. The Brittany Coast offers
good sailing ,some very attractive small ports and islands and
not least some great restaurants..... The Channel Islands are also
worth a holiday. In the UK Yachting Monthly and Practical Boat Owner
produce guides to charterers annually. I might have last years guides
around if you are interested.

932.5 | Stockholm Archipelago | EXPERT::SPENCER | John Spencer | Tue Aug 09 1988 17:33 | 15 |
| RE: .1,
I've sailed for a couple days in the Stockholm Archipelago, and other than
keeping an eye out for a modest amount of shipping when crossing the main
channel, it was relaxing and easy fun. Tide is minimal, weather was fine,
islands to stop at everywhere, and gnerally quite interesting, though
never very remote.
My friends said that there are many places to charter a Folkboat (26',
good for two adults, with or without up to two kids), and that they are
quite reasonably priced. Alas, I don't know any specific sources, though
you might try calling the Stockholm office to se if anyone there can help.
