929.0. "Friendship Sloop owners ?" by SKIVT::P_BOUCHER (Peter Boucher, BTO Process Sys.Eng.) Wed Jul 27 1988 14:59

    Let's see how many Friendship Sloop owners we have out there.

    Please reply to this entry with the name of your sloop, length,
    type of hull (glass or wood), year it was built and if known,
    by whom is was built (W.Morse, Lash Brothers, etc.).

    I personally do not own a Friendship sloop, but have been exposed
    to them for almost 30 years and am quite curious as to how many
    sloop owners there are at DEC.

    I grew up on a Friendship 43 in Lake Champlain, NY...Alas,
    the Aeolus was in dry dock in 1960 when a lantern blew
    over and she burned to the ribs.....she's now (the little
    bit that's left) in a garage in Elizabethtown, NY.

    They're wonderful old tubs, but man are they slow!

929.2Information on Friendship Sloop Association?DECWIN::WOODBURYTue Sep 12 1989 16:037
    At a recent Cat Boat Association race someone mentioned that there was
    a similar association for Friendship Sloops. Does anyone know where I
    can get some information on the Friendship Sloop Association?

    Thanks,
    Mark Woodbury

929.3Friendship Sloop SocietyCDR::SPENCERJohn SpencerWed Sep 13 1989 08:5413
It's the Friendship Sloop Society, and while I don't have an address for
it directly, if you send a letter to the Friendship Museum it will end up
in the right hands. The Friendship Museum is in Friendship, ME, which is
probably all the address you need.

Among other activities, each year the FSS holds a regatta as part of
Friendship Sloop Days out of Friendship, ME. An amazing collection of
original, restored, and replica Friendships come together and compete in a
friendly by hotly-sailed contest. Great on-the-water viewing if you're
in the area.
