Sounds like fun! It would be nice to meet some of the
members of this conference in person (maybe a cookout?) sometime
and talk sailing face to face.

Why not, it would be interesting to run into each other somewhere
while cruising. This way we could recognize each other. Let see
how many more interested parties we can get?. My sailing area is
on the Cheseapeake Bay.

923.4 | DIGITAL pennant???? | THEPOD::PEASE_DAVE | I said Id have to think about it | Mon Aug 01 1988 12:09 | 14 |

I'm not sure what the activities of a distributed 'yacht club'
would have, But I'd be interested once we trade up to a coastal cruiser
in the next year or 2.
This seems the right place to ask: Is it appropriate or appealing
to have a DIGITAL pennant hoisted? The type of person who sees it,
especially MASS and some Downeast would be the type to have influence
in a customers business. Is there such a pennant. If not, would this be
such an 'activity' for the DEC yacht club to foster? I'd prefer a generic
DEC pennant rather than a DEC yacht club specific item.

A lot of flag companies show pictures of DEC flags in their catalogs,
as samples of "custom" work. I doubt they're for sale to anyone
other than the corporation, though. And I don't know whether the
corporation would sell them--the Flying notes file just went down
a rathole trying to get permission to use the piano keys logos on
t-shirts. Apparently you need to be an official "club" to use
the logo.

I remember that our costcenter (> 10 years ago) had a sweatshirt
made up and I got the feeling that permission to use the DIGITAL block
letter logo was little more that a phone call. But them were the good ole
days.......
What if I make one myself and put it on???? Not a good idea,
me thinks. We have t-shirts available in our plant though the Employees
Activities Committee with the same logo. Hmmmmm, I'll have to go and ask..

Yup, you sure do. I just talked with a (the ?) corporate logo
person. He said that use of the logo implies a liability by DEC. If its
used by a function to which DEC supports or supplies money to, then its
allright. For instance, the DEC Credit Union has to apply for a permit
to use the logo because the DCU is an entity separate from DEC.
Now if the DYC (DEC Yacht Club) was partially funded by DEC........
Oh well....Neever mind

follow the conversations here.

chances of corporate recognition and whatever benefits that entails.

| OK,
Now that there seems to be interest in a DYC, or atleast a way
of identifying other DECies on the high seas, AND we can't use anything
official, lets take up the earlier suggestion and design our own, non-DEC
pendent, and see if anybody can get them made.
I sail from the Boothbay area, and there seem to be quite a few
DECies passing through. Hmmm, mabye we need a DEC type of 'handle' for
use on the VHF??

It's not too hard to buy stuff with Digital's logo on it. I wonder
whether we might be able to convince whoever decides these things
simply to print a bunch of 12x18 or (your-size-here) pennants and
sell them to employees.
