907.0. "Laser sailing Book?" by CLT::RONAN () Fri Jul 15 1988 15:31

    Can anyone direct me to a title (and/or a bookstore) for some
    information on how to sail a Laser?

    thanks.

907.1The New Laser Sailing!BPOV07::TRAINORDinghy ThingiesMon Jul 25 1988 10:2023
    The only book that I can suggest is a book that I have on my shelf
    called "The New Laser Sailing" written by Dick Tillman and Dave
    Powlison (pub. Sail Books, Boston, MA 1983). It is a great book
    strictly about the Laser, from the history to basic sailing to rigging
    and racing (advanced and begginner), maintenance, and personnal
    fitness techniques to help you sail better. The last section in
    the book contains interviews of the key sailors of the day, which
    makes pretty interesting reading.

    I can't help you regarding Laser II's, but once again, Can-Am might
    be able to give you more info here.

    There is an organization out of Canada that promotes the Laser as
    a class boat through sponsored races and magazines about the boat
    world wide called the International Laser Class Association. They
    might have a suggested reading list that they might make available
    to you. I do know that if you have a membership with them, you
    get discounts at Can-Am.

    Hope that helps.

907.2Ed Baird wrote a bookULTRA::WITTENBERGSecure Systems for Insecure PeopleTue Jul 26 1988 14:3111
    There's also a book by Ed Baird (last seen campainging a Soling
    for an Olympic berth). I've sailed against Ed and talked to him
    about sailing. He's knowledgeable, and often inovative. I've never
    read his writing, but he is well spoken, so I would expect it to
    be good. International Marine Publishing (Camden, Maine, I'm
    afraid that I don't have the phone number handy) sells Ed's book.
    I think they are discounting either an older edition or slightly
    damaged copies now.
