Being base in Warrington I am very near Liverpool. I could get
you contacts of the Steam Ship lines like P & O and there is also
a maritime museum. Would this be of any use or as you are in Ayr
have you already tried this route?

There's a book called "The Only Way to Cross" by John Maxwell-Grahm
that discusses most of the important steamships, from Turbinia
through the QE2. You might check it out. I have it at home, and
I'll try to look up the ship you mention this weekend.
