There is an ad in the Portland, Oregon paper for a 26' Blanchard(wood boat). I asked the salesman how good was the hull? He said there was some rot in the bow and stern! He said the rest of the boat is in good shape with all the hardware. The owner is asking $7,500, but the salesman said they will take $3,500. My question is, who much work will it take to fix, and should I run (not walk) away from this one? Thank for the help.

798.1 | how about a pro. surveyor? | MERIDN::GERMAIN | Down to the Sea in Ships | Mon Apr 18 1988 09:33 | 16 |
One option is to spend a couple hundred dollars, and have a professional engineer survey the vessel for you. It's like having a house inspected before you buy it. The engineer will tell you precisely what has to be done to make the boat seaworthy - then you can make up your mind. I don't know if you are in the Portland, Oregon area, but, if you aren't, the toughest part will be to find a GOOD engineer in the area of the boat. Anybody got any suggestions as to how to choose a good surveyor? Gregg |
