767.0. "CL-16 sailboat" by BPOV09::LAMPROS (Bill Lampros) Thu Mar 17 1988 14:30

I,m interested in buying a CL-16 sailboat. The boat is manufactured
by C & L boatworks, Waterhouse and May limited, Pickering Ontario.
The boat is new and costs $3500 with the trailer.

Any comments either positive or negative ?

    Is the price right ?

I never heard of it, but...

Think about how long you are likely to own the boat. If there is a possibility
that you will sell it within a few years, it is a good idea to buy a boat
that is popular in your area. Boats are easy to buy and hard to sell!

Also, you will probably get better value buying a used boat. If the boat
you refer to is common in your area, check local boating mags, want ads etc.
to find typical prices for used ones. This will give you an idea whether you
want to spend the extra bucks for a brand new one.

I saw someone sailing one of these on Hopkington Reservoir a couple
of weekends ago, and I can tell you the following:

    1) It can be successfully sailed by one person in high winds
    2) It can be successfully righted from an overturned AND a COMPLETELY
overturned state by one person in high winds.
    3) It seemed to take quite a while to demast and put onto a trailer,
but, it could be done - again by one person.

It looked like a decent boat, with a good amount of speed!
