759.0. "Sailing Speakers/Ideas" by SAGE::JERAULD () Thu Mar 10 1988 16:35

Are there any interesting presenters out there that
would be willing to speak on a topic related to sailing
to a small yacht club on the first Monday of the month ??

I'm the Vice-Commodore of the Massabesic Yacht Club in
Manchester, NH and I'm looking for ideas, topics and
distingushed guests to come to MYC. If you know of
someone, or perhaps have an interesting topic to
discuss or present (usually informally) give me a call
or respond on this note file.

I'm sure others might enjoy seeing what Sailing interests
are available within/outside of DEC. We've had sailmakers
like Norm Cressey, NH Safety officials, class racers,
etc. present in the past. I'm looking for some new speakers
perhaps on dinghy racing, off-shore racing/crusing, or ???

    All ideas are welcome !!

Im a member of the Traditional Small Craft Association of the Peabody
Museum. We meet monthly and have had a variety of speakers, mostly
grouped into two classes- boat builders and 'adventurers' The person
who schedules are events is Bob Hicks, Publisher of Messing About
in Boats, a small New England Boat publication- Bob himself may
be a good speaker! Bob can be reached at 617/774-0906.

Another plug for Messing About- its a great little mag, comes out
every other week, and is strictly devoted to small boat stuff in
    New England. $15 per year.

I'm interested in Messing About. Would it be possible to see
one or two sample articles? How does one subscribe?

Write (or call) Bob Hicks, at 29 Burley St, Wenham, MA (can't remember
the ZIP), tell him how you heard about Messing..., and ask if he'll send
you a sample issue or two. He's always glad to do so.

I'm another noter who subscribes; it's a downright unpretentious bit of
fun twice a month, and an excellent source of mostly local (N.E.) news on
all kinds of human-scale small craft.

The full address for Bob Hicks is:

Bob will always send sample copies, and the subscription base is
extending a bit outside New england- although Bob intends to keep
the focus on NE, he has readers now over most of the Eastern half
    of the US.

If sailing is defined as 'Mucking about in boats', then sailing
on the East Coast (UK) estuaries can be defined as 'boating about
    in muck'
