750.0. "Moorings, etc." by MIZZEN::DEMERS (Do the workstation thing) Wed Feb 24 1988 13:09

    I'm close to a purchase of a 30' sailboat. Close enough to consider
    where I should put it.

    Can someone save me from "telephone finger" and recommend some places
    to start looking and checking for prices? I've yet to determine
    my "threshhold of pain", so I'd like to visit to see what I get
    for the $. I live in Hudson, MA and would be open to either the
    South Shore or Narragansett Bay area.

    tnx,

    Chris

750.1some places in RI to callGRAMPS::WCLARKWalt ClarkWed Feb 24 1988 16:0213
    Things are getting tighter on the bay. I cant speak to waiting lists
    for the following places, but they are big (and expensive, something
    like $60/ft for the season). The turnover rate at the bigger places
    is significant, so finding a spot eventually is likely.

    Norton's   - East Greenwich RI
    Masthead   - Warwick RI
    Bend       - Portsmouth RI

    I dont know what the deal is with rental moorings these days.

750.2More on RI slips and mooringsTALLIS::RICKARDWed Feb 24 1988 16:1916
    The Bend, Portsmouth RI - 401-683-4000 (now East Passage Yachting
    Center) has gone dockominium. However, I know that some of the
    more affluent purchased multiple slips so they could rent them out.
    The center may be handling some of these for the owners. I know
    it will be expensive but the facilities are pretty good. The slips
    that haven't sold will also be rented and I know of a few people
    leaving because of the switch to dockominium.

    You may want to check with the Newport Harbor master to see if there
    are moorings available down there; Oldport Marine may have some
    long term rentals too. I also see lots of boats moored on the
    Sakonnett river in Tiverton. There may be a harbor master there
    that you can contact.

750.3if you're not bent on going South...OURVAX::NICOLAZZOBetter living through chemistryThu Feb 25 1988 12:508
      If you want to consider going north try Salem Harbor. I also live
    in Hudson and it takes me 45 - 50 min. to get there (the distance
    to the boat is one of the most important considerations to me).

      If you're interested call Barnegat Transportation Company (745-6070).
    Rates this year are $14.00 per foot plus $300.00 for the launch
    service. They always have moorings available.

    One can still buy a mooring in Bristol Harbor. We've had one for
    a couple of years. You need to locate the Harbor Master who will
    drop one for you for a fee. I think the cost for the mooring to
    support our 36 footer was under $800, but we own it.

    Good luck

750.5New Bedford MooringHYEND::RSCHLESSFri Apr 08 1988 15:244
    If you are interested in a mooring around New Bedford I've researched
    it pretty thoroughly. DTN 297-2839 Beau Schless
