The recent budget cuts for the Coast Guard will impact the New England boaters
through reduced Search and Rescue (SAR) coverage at several USCG stations.

The stations affected, as announced this past week, are:

Block Island SAR, down nine people.
Eastport SAR, down eight people.
New London Port Safety, down six people.
Bangor Marine Safety, down four people.
Hyannis Marine Safety, down three people.
New London Marine Inspection, down one person.

The combine savings totals $1,315,000 for the 1st Coast Guard District. The

Is there any additional information on the USCG Budget Cuts ?
    (i.e. additonal station closings,etc.)

I understand that USCG Station Eastport,Maine has been closed.

    Is this true ?

It seems that Block Island is shut down/closed altogether. All
SAR is handled via Point Judith, Castle Hill, or Montauck.
