674.0. "ROMANCE" by CASAD3::WALKER () Wed Oct 21 1987 19:48

Our Sailing School is chartering the Brigantine Romance in
February 1988! We currently have 6 of the 16 passengers
committed. We would love to commit all the available
berths with 16 New England Sailors!

We will leave Boston on February 20, and we will arrive
in Tortola, British Virgin Islands via Saint Thomas at
approximately 1800 hours, setting sail on Sunday for
a week of learning, relaxing aboard this beautiful
square rigger...and back to Boston on February 27.

The cost? YOU WON'T BELIEVE IT! Either $1200 or $1250
(depending on the berth you choose) will FLY you down,
WINE you, DINE you, BED you and get you back to Boston
    in eight days.

    The 'ROMANCE' is a beauty -- 90 ' (110' O.A.) a world
cruising ship designed to give you more of everything
for a perfect sailing vacation -- and just 16 passengers
with an experienced crew of 6. She is a true and faithful
recreation in cordage and canvas of a vessel of the
1800's. Her 12 sails total 4,500 sq ft of canvas. She has
very ample Diesel power and carries complete safety
    equipment!

                   AND SHE IS CALLING YOU

YOUR PROMPT REPLY WILL GIVE YOU MORE INFORMATION !!!!!!!!!!!!!

674.1We survived the week on the ROMANCE!LEDS::GRAYWed Mar 09 1988 17:3721
Well...15 of us spent the last week of February on the Romance.
There were about 6 affiliated with DEC and the rest from the
Portsmouth, NH area. I was one great time....bar hopping ....by
boat for the week! The Deckies and non-deckies alike kept the crew
entertained for the week...I don't thnk they had had such a group
on borad the Romance for many years! We did a fairly typical cruise,
starting at Road Town in Tortola, going to Norman Island, then Virgin
Gorda, to Josh Van Dyke, to Peter's Island and back to Road Town!

The food and companionship were first rate. So were the young crew!
The Romance has an element of "roughing" it about it. All but one
of the passengers survived the entire week! Its a once in a life
    time experience!

The Kimbverly's will cruise with as few as 5 people - they can be
contacted directly: KIMBERLY CRUISES/BOX 5086(P), St Thomas, Virgin
Islands 00801. Replys will be slow as they check thier box only
    every couple of weeks!

I'm sure the group that went heard all about it, but the Kimberley's
occasionally go off on busman's holidays - sailing away from the
Virgins to the western Caribbean, the Galapagos, the Pacific or
around the world. They've done the latter twice - I went the first
time - a real lifetime experience. A perfect opportunity if you're
not married, not a homeowner, and not long with DEC.

The ship is a real character builder and the "milk run" around the
BVI is certainly worth the "roughing it" aboard.

I'd recommend it to seasoned sailors as well as those new to the
    experience.
