660.0. "Scottish Series 1988" by AYOU17::NAYLOR () Tue Oct 06 1987 06:48

    Could this be a take-over bid?

    There are at least 2, and possibly 4, boats entering the May 1988
    Scottish Series from the Ayr plant. Known entries so far are "Triad",
    a Sonata, entered by Henry AYOU08::FULLERTON and "Club Wine", a
    Club 19, entered by myself. Anyone else thinking of joining the
    party?

    Point of interest, DEC Ayr have supplied the race results service
    to a number of international races in local waters (Clyde) but we
    haven't managed to get this one bagged yet. Could more DEC entries
    swing it? Would DEC provide us all with new spinnakers? Will "Club
    Wine" survive another gale? Watch this space!

660.1No boat,but would crew.RDGE43::BARKERThe best thing since sliced Custard Tue Oct 06 1987 13:4416
    Is the "Scottish Series" the one that used to be called the Tomatin
    (sp?) Trophy. If it is then I would be interested in Crewing,
    preferably in something a bit larger than the 2 mentioned, but beggers
    can't be choosers.

    I am currently based in Reading but am moving to Blazingsmoke next
    year to be nearer the Solent ( and because our dept. is moving there ! )
    but I would dearly love to race in your waters.

    Anybody Interested ?

    Yes - it used to be called the Tomatin up to 3 years ago.

    The boats mentioned are fully crewed, but if you get in touch with
    the Clyde Cruising Club at SV Carrick, attention of the Hon racing
    secretary (sounds posh!), I think he keeps a contact list for crew
    availability/needs and tries to match up. If he doesn't, then I'm
    sure he can put you in touch with someone who does.

    The Solent's got nothing on the Clyde - except more traffic!

660.3How about Chartering?RDGE43::BARKER175 Shopping days until BasingstokeWed Oct 07 1987 09:4715
    Is there enough interest out there for a Charter?

    In order to establish the practicalities of this, can anybody tell
    me what would be a good size/type boat to charter. Are there any
    one design classes in the regatta ( Particularly Sigma 33 ) ?

    I would be willing (just about) to Skipper, particularly if the
    rest of the crew were reasonable.

    Any Takers ?

660.4Who's Booze?RDGE43::BARKER175 Shopping days until BasingstokeWed Oct 07 1987 09:503
    p.s. Is it going to be sponsored by McEwans again? ( as I believe
    it was in 87 )

660.5Only SonatasAYOU17::NAYLORWed Oct 07 1987 10:4512
    The only one-design class is for Sonatas. All other boats run under
    RORC handicap rules. There are a LOT of Sigmas enter each year.

    As far as I know, McEwans are sponsoring again.

    If you need charter companies on the Clyde, I could put you in touch
    with a few if you like (send direct mail rather than fill up this
    conference).
