I picked up a copy of the Bliss catalog at the Boston show this past weekend, and, being new to sailing, came across a new term to me--Whisker pole. Three questions: 1. What is it? 2. What is it used for? 3. How do you use it? I'm just curious and thanks for any info. Joe

RE:.0 by JUNIOR::CARRERA "Joe Carrera" > Whisker pole. Three questions: > 1. What is it? > 2. What is it used for? > 3. How do you use it? It is a pole that attaches to the mast and the clew of the jib. It is used when running (sailing almost dead downwind) to keep the jib winged out (on the opposite side of the boat from the main). Sail slightly by the lee, attach the pole to the jib, extend the pole, attach the pole to the mast, resume course. There are different ways that this is done, depending on the hardware on the boat.... Phil |
