I'm looking for a WWII vintage Hamilton marine chronometer. I've
always been fascinated by well built timepieces and when I ran across
an ad for replicas I sent for more info. Unfortunately, they are only
available in a quartz movement, and I'm looking for a mechanical one.
I know it wont be cheap, but I've wanted one of these for quite a while
now and I was wondering if anyone out there could help me out.

I have a wind-up movement for a "REAL" ships clock. The beautiful
brass case now contains a quartz movement because winding was a
pain and accuracy was poor. If you would like to negotiate on just
the movement I think we can deal.

Check Robert E. White Instruments, Inc., 64 Commercial Wharf, Boston,
617-742-3045. They used to sell second-hand chronometers, sextants,
etc. You might also contact Don Treworgy, Planetraium Supervisor,
at Mystic Seaport (203-572-0711 ??). Another place to try is New
York Nautical Instrument Co. in Manhattan.

A most interesting store has opened in Marlboro selling Antique
scientific and technical things. They have several sextants, telescopes
and clocks, as well as lots of 'old' computer stuff. Its a fun place
to browse.
