Has anyone out there had experience with the Island Packet 27? We are considering buying one and would appreciate hearing of an experience that you may have had or have heard. It looks great in the show room and we will have a chance to sail one before putting down the money, but .... dc

600.1 | USED PACKET FOR SALE | AIMHI::STOWELL | Wed Jul 22 1987 10:18 | 12
I KNOW WHERE THERE IS A USED 27 FOR SALE. IT IS FULLY EQUIPPED, AND A LOT LESS THAN A NEW BOAT. I HAVE BEEN ON THE 27, AND IF YOUR INTO CRUISING I GUESS YOU CAN'T FIND A BETTER BUILT 27 FOR CRUISING. I DO UNDERSTAND THAT THEY ARE SLOW, HOWEVER, A GOOD BOAT IN STIFF WINDS. GOOD LUCK, BOB 264-8376
600.2 | An experience on a IP 31 | DSSDEV::RUDY | Tue Jul 28 1987 13:21 | 5
I sailed an Island Packet 31 which is a similar design. It was a moderated breeze about 10 knots. My impression was the boat was fairly stiff but relatively slow. Under these conditions the tacking angles were no better then 90 degress.

Are these Island boats the same as the Islands that were on display at the sailboat show? There was an Island 19 at about 2/3 the price of an O'Day 19, and I wonder if anyone has any general impressions about the make. |
