591.0. "Small boats on the Cape" by LYMPH::DICKSON (Network Design tools) Thu Jul 02 1987 14:38

I am going to be in Chatham for a while this summer, and thought it would
be nice to rent a day sailer for an afternoon to see what things look like
from offshore.

I've called all the marinas in Chatham, and they all seem to be out of the
rental business. Might have something to do with the break-through
protective reef.

Anybody know a place (and the phone number) near the elbow of Cape Cod that
rents small sailboats? One guy suggested a place in Harwich, but I don't
have the number.

I looked in Hyannis last year, and the prices seemed kind of steep. Like
$75 for 4 hours in a 19 footer. Will it be cheaper away from the tourist
zoo?

    A couple of years ago there were 4-6 Sturdee Cats (14 and 16 ft.
    varieties) available for rent at either Wellfleet Marine or
    Harbor Marine. Easy to handle, roomy. The harbor in Wellfleet
    tends to be shoaly but pleasant for day sailing. Price was not
    out of the world.

    Hope that's helpful.

591.2Long weekend charters?CONSLT::MCBRIDEFlick of my BIC Scarecrow?Mon Jul 11 1994 15:276
    I am looking for a long weekend rental on the Cape to be able to do
    M.V., Cuttyhunk etc. Anyone know of outfits or individuals that might
    be interested in chartering for a long weekend? I would prefer
    something 30-35' for four people.

    Cape watersports (508 432-7079) was doing them the last time I was
    down there out of Hyannis.

    Might try calling one of those charter companies in Marblehead to see
    what they do with the weekly boats that do not rent for the week.

591.4If interested in Newport departureMR4DEC::RONDINATue Jul 12 1994 14:573
    If you want to leave from Newport area, contact East Passage Sailing
    Charters out of Portsmouth, RI. I have done business with them over
    the last 4 years with great luck.
591.5Called them, no luckCONSLT::MCBRIDEFlick of my BIC Scarecrow?Tue Jul 12 1994 16:507
    Called East Passage yesterday. It seems the weekend we wish to go is
    the weekend of the Jazz festival so everything is booked. Also, at
    $800.00 for a three day weekend on a Pearson 303, it was much too pricey.

    Thanks anyway!

591.6Have charter boat, need charter dinghyCONSLT::MCBRIDEFlick of my BIC Scarecrow?Fri Jul 29 1994 17:0311
    An update and a request for info, we found a Catalina 27 through Cape
    Water Sports (thanks for the tip!) which was in our price range. The
    only drawback is there is no dinghy with which to explore. So, my next
    question is does anyone know of an outfit or anyone willing to loan, rent,
    or charter a dinghy for a weekend out of Falmouth? We need it for the
    weekend of 8/12. We just need something to get around in if we choose
    to explore ashore in the more remote areas.

    Thanks,

    Brian
