In case anyone needs information on getting an inflatable repair
I wanted to pass along what I discovered.
Landrigan Associates
(617) 567-2182
There is a place at Logan that does this work called Landrigan
Associates. They are at logan because they do the work for life
rafts etc for the airlines. They said they could do the work but
was backlogged for three weeks minimum and waiting for the special
glue from Achilles. They were very cooperative and he even gave
me a detailed description on how to repair it.
His estimate for repair and testing which includes a warranty
was $150 based on my verbal description. I described it as a six
inch long tear that ended less then a .25 inches from a seam. He
admitted it seemed steep but this was due to the fact it was somewhat
delicate. The repair would require an internal patch, followed by
lifting the 'good seam', then an external patch and putting the
seam back down.
International Watercraft
Stuart, Florida
Not liking the three week delay I went ahead and started to
call International Watercraft in Stuart Florida. They carry the
glue in bulk rather then those small tubes in patch kits. They
also carry the fabric. I also discovered they do the work in
about 2 days of turn around time. Shipping takes 4 business days
each way. The total time would be 10 days. Shipping a dinghy
weighing 50 1bs(Achillies DT4) to them via UPS is $15.
His quote for the work is $80. Given what I was going to spend
for the materials I decided to give it a try. The challenge was
packing this for UPS in a box with girth less then 108 inches.
This place sells all the patching material and if you want to
do it yourself they were also cooperative on how to approach it.
A husband and wife team runs it.
Inflatable Boat Center
(203)388-0867
This is place near Essex, Conn. that had a 2 week
backlog and quoted $200 for the work.
Avon
Medford Mass.
They do repairs to Avons only.
