546.0. "Bear Boating" by MOORED::GERSTLE (Carl Gerstle) Tue May 05 1987 16:04
Now that Rex (543.2) has been admitted to, I thought a separate
note was worthwhile to discuss all aspects of bears at sea.
I must admit that a part of the reason for the name of my boat (Ursa
Major) is the devotion my family has towards its bear population
- we must have about 8 by now. We have a Paddington (complete with
foulies (yellow, no little green whales) and Wellington boots on
board who acts as a guard-bear and look-out. He too is in search
of a PFD.
Some questions for the noting community include:
Who else has bears on board and what have their experiences
been?
Does anyone want to draw a parallel between boat-speak and
bears? (Ie: terms like bear-boating, bearing off, etc.)

| THis seems to be an appropriate place....
Has anyone had any problems with having Barbie and Ken aboard? I
found a tennis racket and a boot in the bilge last fall. There's
also some concern about Ken losing his head overboard. He's sort
of an old Ken and has led an active life...

| I enjoy bare boating all the time. Try it sometime!!
I missed the whale watch this year though.
How many others enjoy enjoy the pleasures of going
natural out there?

| re .2
Ken and Barbie do, sometimes.
Isn't the non-skid a little tough to take?
