539.0. "Sailing Prompt" by TUNDRA::HICKSON () Tue Apr 28 1987 19:12

	Are you tired of staring at the "$" prompt on your system (no
	wonder we're all obsessed with money)? Would you like to switch
	your prompt to something more evocative of your avocation rather
	than your occupation?

        Well, so did I. The following DCL lines when added to your login.com
        file will set your prompt to be a bit mapped representation of a
        sailboat, cruising along. You'll need to have a VT240 since it requires
        the ability to redefine characters.

        The two pixels which appear out of line are unavoidable.

        $ esc[0,7]   = 27

        $ write sys$output "1;7;1{1gkihgggg/AAACCCCC;we`_____/GGGGGGCC"
        $ write sys$output "1;9;1{1___`acgo/CCCAAAAA;___?????/BAACCCCC"

539.1Should work on any VT2xx terminalGATORS::VICKERSI must be going SOMEWHERE?Tue Apr 28 1987 21:538
    Very nice.

    This procedure loads characters into the definable font and, therefore,
    should work on any REAL VT200 class terminal. I assume that the
    VT300 class would also work.

	I just made one up today. I have updated the cursor.com file
that builds the stuff to set up the cursor command. I also added one
'other' image and took the ones that crash my gpx!! The one file you need
is at MTBLUE::SYS$USER4:[PEASE_DAVE]CURSOR.COM. Execute it then read the
first few pages of cursor.com that tell you how to set it up.

539.4possible problemsTUNDRA::HICKSONMon May 11 1987 15:3717
    I got a call from someone who was having trouble getting the prompt
    to work and their problem was that they were trying to type in the
    lines in the original note. You won't be able to do this as the
    lines contain control characters (they show up as backward question
    marks). To get the lines to work EXTRACT the note and use an editor
    to strip off the text lines leaving just the DCL lines. Leave these
    remaining lines in a file and "@" the file from your login.com.
    If you still have problems give me a call.

    Other problems you might be having are that it requires a VT240
    (I haven't been able to get it to work on anything else), that
    the terminal must be identified as a VT200 in setup, and that the
    terminal must have soft characters enabled (check by entering
    SHOW TERM at the DCL prompt).

	How to make it working on a VT320?

539.7VT3xx versionBTO::HICKSON_BThu Sep 08 1988 07:2522
    I just got a VT3xx and it appears that the syntax for soft character
    sets is somewhat different due to the higher resolution of the VT3xx
    series. Here's a set of DCL commands to set the prompt to a sailboat
    image on a vt3xx (you'll have to be in VT300 mode and the line will
    have to be set as using the SET TERM/DEV=VT300 probably). IT only
    uses one line rather than two so the image is smaller than the vt2xx
    version.

		NICE!

	To see what this really says you need a graphics terminal,
	it worked on my VT125. Extract the note to a file and later
	send the file to the terminal using the TYPE command.

If you're on a DECWINDOWS terminal window, EXTRACT to TT:
If you're on a VWS terminal window, you can do the same, but your window must
have REGIS support. Some do, some don't.
