494.0. "Messing About in Boats" by 3D::GINGER () Tue Mar 03 1987 07:59

    'Messing About in Boats' is a New England based bi-weekly newsletter
    devoted to small boating activity. Typical articles cover rowing,
    small boat sailing, sea kaying, local boatbuilders, interesting
    amateur building projects etc. There has been very little on outboard
    motor baoting or class sailboat racing. Just mostly 'messing about'
    kind of people and activities. Currently a series is running on
    local access to the water- lots of tips about the small, 'local
    knowledge' areas where its possible to get to the water.

    Each issue has a classified ad section- free to subscribers- and
    a page or two of New England boat events.

    The magazine is about 24-30 pages, black and white, and is mailed
    every two weeks.

    Subscription rate is $15 for one year- 24 issues. Order from

494.1IT'S WHAT I HAVE A JOB FORFDCV18::DARROWTue Mar 03 1987 09:5821
    I have been subscribing to 'messing about in BOATS'(maiB) for several
    years now and have seen it double in size. This 'magazine' is a
    local (New England) publication and is the result of some very hard
    though I'm sure VERY enjoyable work by one Bob Hicks. Bob is the
    publisher, editor, advertising sales manager, primary writer and
    photographer or so it seems. He welcomes submissions, and has had
    a broad variety of articles in the past.

    I look forward to maiB's arrival twice a month. At 15$ per year,
    its a great deal.

    I also subscribe to 'Small Boat Journal' and 'Canoe'.

    I subscribed to 'Sail' for years, but more recently centered my
    interest on smaller boats.

    I would be happy to loan recent issues of maiB, just contact me
    at ALASKA::DARROW or dtn: 223-3935 (Parker Street).

    send a FREE sample copy to anyone that writes to him and mentions
    this note.
