457.0. "Need ATV help for a Regetta" by AKOV04::KALINOWSKI () Tue Jan 06 1987 12:32

        I have a favor to ask of any of you sailors who may own one
    of those four wheeled motorcycles. We are having a major points
    regetta in Rockport or June 20th and 21st. We are using a beach
    that has very deep sand on it. We need to get the trailers with
    their boat (appx 400 lbs)off the main street and onto the beach. Because the
    sand is so deep and we only have a quarter mile of beach to use,
    we would like to use a couple of ATVs to do the job. We have a
    couple of 4 wheel drive trucks, but the ATVs are much more suited
    to the job because they are much more nimble. I have seen ATVs used
    with great success at other regettas.

       We expect between 50-150 boats altogether, but because of the
    access, two ATV's would handle the load. Any of you folks out there
    willing to give us a hand, or at least lend us your ATV for the
    weekend? The place is a beach on the Rockport/Glouster line about
    5 minutes from the end of Rt 128. The need would be from 8 am to
    noon on Saturday, and 11 am to 4 pm on Sunday.

       If you can help out, or know of someone who may, please send
    me a vaxmail at AKOV04::KALINOWSKI

    THANKS

    john

     John, You may want to try posting your request in MANANA::CYCLES
    There are a few people who own those ATV's that read that file.

     Also an incentive might help. Maybe a free Hobie ride. Anybody
    crazy enough to ride those ATV's would be crazy enough to enjoy
    a Hobie:-)

457.2Some help available here, not quite what you asked for...EUREKA::REG_BMoutain Man(iac)Tue Jan 06 1987 17:4414

    	re .1	Just beat me to it. Anyway, I can probably offer the
    use of a utility trailer complete with tarp cover and tow vehicle.
    With a bit of luck the tow vehicle will be 4WD by then, so I could
    get in fairly close to where they would actually be used. I also
    have a power boat, any need for that as race marshall boat or wrecke..,
    err salvage vessel ?

    	Incentive ?, well now lemme see.... I guess just helping
    out and seein' dem hobies GO would be enough fun.

457.3replys to .1 and .2AKOV04::KALINOWSKIWed Jan 07 1987 17:2522
    457.1 good idea, i tried yesterday, but i couldn't make the
    connection. will try tonight.

             As to a ride, heck, if they are crazy enough to go out
    on the ocean with me, i'm game. a warning though, i can pitchpole
    a cat on a dime and leave 9 cents change! I'll even take any of
    you folks out on a more quiet weekend to blow off the monohull race
    boats. If there is enough wind, who knows, 40 foot chris crafts
    are a riot to run!!

    457.2 Are you talking an ATV or a truck? As I said, we are looking
    for the ATVs because they are so nimble. the boats are already on
    trailers, we just need to move them onto the beach.

    Of course all you sailors are invited to watch this event. the beach
    seems quite nice (i've only seen it at midnight when the winds gave
    out a long way from home). Mark those calanders now!!

457.4I thought that's what Cats were for...USMRW6::RNICOLAZZOBetter living through chemistryThu Jan 08 1987 10:355
    RE .3

      Oh good, you mean i'm not the only one.....So that means i won't
    look THAT stupid if i enter only to pitchpole???

457.5Sorry if .2 wasn't clear.....EUREKA::REG_BMoutain Man(iac)Fri Jan 09 1987 11:5510
    re (.3 re .2)	What I was offering was a car and trailer to
    get the ATVs there, in case the owners can't be there themselves
    or don't mind someone else driving them around. I agree that the
    ATVs are more nimble in tight quarters, but another 4WD could be
    useful, especially if it has a spotting hitch on the front. Anyway,
    is there a use for the power boat ?

457.6thanks for the offerAKOV04::KALINOWSKIWed Jan 28 1987 12:2817
    re (.5) sorry it took so long to get back to you, but i have been
    on vacation in Aruba.

     thanks for the offer, but we are all set on crash and committee
    boats as our yacht club does this for us (one of the advantages
    to belonging to a club).

    re (.4) the water around Aruba is great for pitchpoling as it is
    really warm. the spray is comfortable too. I didn't crash the
    hobie 14 I was renting, but I went "swimming" lots of times learning
    to sail a windsurfer. i'm not sure if those windsurfer boards are
    the work of the devil, or nature's way of telling me to get a sailboat
    with a keel!.

457.7You better check with the Town.SWSNOD::RPGDOCDennis the MenaceMon Feb 02 1987 15:1310
    The beach regulations, clearly posted, in the Town of Rockport,
    specifically forbid the launching, or beaching, of any kind of boat,
    sail, power, or hand propelled, from any of the public beaches in
    town. You can't even row your dinghy ashore from a moored yacht.
    I think it goes without saying that they would not look favorably
    on your taking 4-wheel drive vehicles onto the beach.

457.8ALREADY DID .7AKOV04::KALINOWSKIMon Feb 16 1987 19:356
