389.1 | Definitely Welcome!!! | CASADM::THOMAS | | Mon Aug 25 1986 17:06 | 20 |
| When Hogy set this conference up it was for discussions on sailing.
Since we've had no constitutional convention since then, I'd say that
you're welcome. And speaking as the moderator, I'd prefer it if you
were NOT quiet. We seem to be an opinionated lot so why should you
be any different :<) !
Most of the active folks here seem to have monohulls and I would
appreciate the viewpoint of another type of water rat. Getting the
other guys viewpoint is always helpful. See note 117 but try to
remember that we're all really nice people. There's a refeerence in
there about a Windsurfing notes file on KRYSTL::. Anyone know if it's
still running?
You multihullers were pretty active for a while. What happened?
you all gonwe sailing?
Sometimes it's fun to be moderator and sound official,
Ed

389.2 | Yes windsurf still exists | STAR::KENNEY | | Mon Aug 25 1986 17:55 | 15 |
| Windsurfing notes file on KRYSTAL it is still out there but not
real active 1-5 notes a week. Guess everybody is busy sailing and
getting wet to write notes.
I have been watching sailing for over a year now Boy are there alot of
rules/taxes/hassles to deal with to go sailing in New England. I just
moved up from Washington DC some hassles but not as many. Will be
looking for places to sail and windsurf (no boat or board so have to
rent or bum a ride) for next spring. With the move & expense of a
new car I have KISSED off this season.

Where are the rest of you all??????????

389.4 | hobie adventures abound | AKOV04::KALINOWSKI | | Wed Aug 27 1986 13:55 | 34 |
| hi rich
things have been busy
most of us decie hobie catter went up to alburg vt for the canadian
invitational. most of us got nailed to the cross when a killer squall
came thru. thats the last time i wait for an abandon race flag and
use some "common sense". got a ride at 25+ knots before the boat
flipped. luckly the water was shallow by then. as i tried to support
the mast from destroying the sails, my crew and i got nailed by
a close lightening strike. Boy does that smarts!!! got a hit a second
time before we could get out of the water. some guy near shore had
his heart stop, but they got it going again.
chuck johnson of westminster came in second from what i hear. he
dumped his old crew (another decie currently teaching in the
burlington vt plant along with his boat!) for his daughter.
last week we had a heck of a time. we tried to round cape ann (that
other cape in Mass) by sail only. didn't get started till late in
the day. 10 knt winds, 10 foot waves. made it all the way up to
cranes beach, tacked a couple hundred of times up the anasquam river
against the wind and current before getting out to glosster (sp)
harbor. sun was going down, but the wind looked good. made it 2
miles out and prepared for a single tack for a sleigh ride home
when the wind stopped. let me make that stopped DEAD. we spent 4
hours paddling in an attempt to finish, but by 10:30 we called it
quits. we hope to try it again next week.
sort of makes you wonder, "are we having fun yet?". answer is YES.

| Well John, sounds like i was better off missing that one:-) Especially
considering my high speed pitch-pole at Mattapoisette...what fun!!!!
On weekends i have a serious toy dilemma between the cat and the
mono-hull but i do plan on making the Duxbury Regatta. How bout
you,,,are you going to Duxbury???
When you sail around Cape Ann, where do you go to-from??? The reason
i ask is my mono-hull is moored in Salem so i'm usually sailing
near cape ann...

389.6 | FALMOUTH HOBIE REGATTA | MRMFG3::W_ROBINSON | | Thu Aug 28 1986 08:10 | 7 |

Don't forget you folks that there is a regatta on Sept, 6th which
is being organised by Link Kraeuter for the local Hobbie fleet.
It's the first one he has done and the only one by a DECie so lets
help him.

389.8 | another one !!! | USMRM2::JONES | Ernie | Fri Aug 29 1986 15:05 | 9 |
| Here's another !!! I'm a full-time multihuller, and agree that I
don't write a note that often, but read a lot and have learned as
much!! (good story on the Bermuda trip!)
I wrote the 'anchor selection' note, but am still researching the
proper anchor... (my tri sails at anchor like crazy!)
Let's here more from the 'more-than-one-hull' sailors.

HEY GUYS, I THINK THEY SAID IT WAS OK, IN FACT THEY

record was set by a windsurfer (38 knots). tee hee! :^D
Please Mr. sailboat dont annihilate my friend she has to
ride her horse on weekdays! :'0

| With the number of windsurfers I see strapped down to the rail of
sailboats, I dont see how very many boat sailors could poo-poo
board sailing.
I may even give it a go myself one day... and wouldnt mind following
gear and technique dialogues here to pick up what I can till then.

| RE: .9 - Hey Wendy,
Are you SURE that a board holds the world speed record?
I thought it was a British out-rigger (can't recall
the name of the boat...). Tell me more about it!!
Robert.
P.S. - I have no doubt it WILL be a board that holds that record
soon!

389.12 | re: 389.5, falmouth regetta directions | AKOV04::KALINOWSKI | | Wed Sep 03 1986 14:59 | 33 |
| mashpee regetta directions
these are from a phone conversation, but we should have hobie "H"
signs all over the place to make finding the beach easy. Link's
regetta is at the South Cape Beach State Park in Mashpee. the
directionss are as follows:
from Route 495:
take 495 to the end and cross the Bourne Bridge. Then follow
Route 28 toward Falmouth until you get to Route 151. Follow Route
151 to the Rotary of routes 151 and route 130. go around until you
see the sign for New Seabury. This is Great Neck Road. follow Great
Neck Road to the end (a.k.a. the ocean). You are now there!
from Route 128:
take 128 to Route 3 South (braintree). Cross over the Sagamore
Bridge and follow the Mid Cape Highway to Route 130. Then take Route
130 toward Mashpee. In downtown Mashpee, there is an Indian Trading
Station on the left. Turn Right there. There should be a sign that
says "NEW SEABURY". Follow this road to the rotary of Route 130
and 151. Then follow Great Neck Road to the regetta as instructed
above.
Link will be showing up about 8 a.m. I hope to have the signs
out by 8:30 from at least the rotary. Link has worked hard on this
one, so all you hobie catters, we hope to see you there. This is
an excellant opportunity to try a one day race without worrying
about the competitors since it is a non-points event. a great
turn-up for Duxbury.
