| I've heard several horror stories about Seafarer - In one case they failed to
put the lead in the keel which resulted in a VERY tender boat. In anothe,r the
gel coat peeled off (in sheets!!) a new boat on the trip back up to Cape
Porpoise, ME. after the new owner took the whole family down to Huntington, L.I.
to pick the boat up and sail it home. The company has had several strikes which
have resulted in their experienced help going elsewhere (so sayeth marine trades
folk). On the positive side, the boats are good designs (all of their boats are
by McCurdy & Rhodes).
I can't say enough about Pearson 26's. (If you're looking for a small family
cruiser!!) We had one for 4 years (South Freeport and points east on the Maine
coast) and loved it. It was built like a tank and a lot of fun to sail. I would
strongly recommend that you put jiffy reefing on the main to keep her on her
feet in anything over 15 knots. If we had kept ours we would have switched to a
Saildrive engine in place of the outboard. At low speeds the prop would be
pulled out of the water if I went on the foredeck. That made for some
interesting anchoring and docking manuevers.
Check back in this note for Bob Hoglund's For Sale Notice. He has a P26 One
Design with a bigger cockpit than the original design.
