I have a 3 H.P. outboard on my daysailor which recently was submerged in salt water. I rinsed the engine out (as best as i could) in fresh water and turned the engine over a few times (i didn't try to start it). Now the engine is seized. Anything i can do short of tearing down the entire engine???

The salt water or its residue has probably started corrosion on the steel parts inside of the engine. The best thing to do is to take it ALL apart and clean off any rust with very fine wet or dry paper and kerosene. Then wipe off the slop that is left and oil the parts. Hopefully this will cure the problems after reassembly. Bruce Bretschneider |
