147.0. "Hull Lettering/Artwork?" by MRADM::ROBINSON () Thu Jul 18 1985 09:22

This might not be up the street of you folks with the larger boats, but
I am looking for help with someone who does artwork.
I am in the final throws of ordering my new Hobie Cat. To complete the
thing I would like to get some lettering and artwork done on the hulls.
Has anyone any ideas/experiences? On the same lines I have also been
toying with the idea of adding a motif to the sails and if again anyone
has any ideas I would be grateful.
                                                              Bill.

Bill,

Call BoatGraphics at 313-855-3525 and ask for their brochure.

They use adhesive backed vinyl to make boat names and graphic images.

Names vary in price from $60 to $210 depending on the number of colors
and whether you specify the exact typestyle or they provide a creative
style or do a custom design. They also create graphic images, cartoon
characters, etc.

I just ordered a "Shibumi" for my boat, specifying that they use the same
typeface that Sabre uses for their logo, using blue letters with red shading.
This cost $75 (Specific typeface, two color) which is less than a sign painter
wanted for simple block letters.

It's not an issue for you but they also guarantee that their typefaces will
meet CG standards for documented boats.

I wanted the lettering on my boat to be unique and that is what I got. It is
quite elegant and I'm very pleased with the results. The designer is
Nancy Culmone of Acton who is a calligrapher and instructor at DeCordova
in Lincoln. Grace Peters of Cambridge, a calligrapher and sign painter, did
the application. It costs a few bucks but it is infinitely more variable
and definitely unique.

147.5Help With boat graphicsAKOCOA::HAMEL_WHITEThu Mar 05 1992 08:487
    Does anyone have a more recent phone number for BOATGRAPHICS? This
    is the one I have from an older sailing note: 313-855-3525. It is
    someone's private home now, so I don't know whether the co. is still
    in business.

    If it isn't, can anyone point me to another, similar company?

147.8Any sign company can do boat graphicsSTEREO::HOFri Mar 06 1992 12:0810
    Any sign company can do stick on vinyl graphics for a boat. Just look
    in the yellow pages under "SIGNS". Some, like Charrette, have the
    ability to scan a photo into their imaging software to produce a vinyl
    rendition.

    Some will do this while you wait. I had a 20" boatname done for my
    boat for $22. Didn't take more than 15 minutes, most of which was
    spent deciding on the type font.
