125.0. "Catamaran in distress!" by GROK::BOKHAN () Wed Jun 26 1985 12:17

	I'M LOOKING FOR A MAST ...

I built a 16 foot Catamaran whose (wooden) mast could
not take the strain of a hefty Massabesic wind on June
22nd. The mast splintered, but the rest of the boat
was not hurt whatsoever. "JOKERMAN" sailed beautifully
for the first three hours until the mast said, "No more."
I'm not giving up; this boat has great potential.

HELP!	I want to buy a [real] mast made of aluminum/alloy/whatever.
My Sail has a 20 foot Luff (the original mast was 22 feet
long.) I think the standard length of a Hobie 14 footer's
mast would match perfectly at 22 feet.

A brand new mast is outrageously priced, so what I want to
do is find a used or slightly damaged mast that can match
my sail dimensions. I know it's a longshot, but keep in
mind I'm NOT fussy. It doesn't have to be a mast from a
Catamaran, it can be ANY 22 or 24 foot mast.

If anyone could give me any ideas and/or advice on whom I
could contact about this, P-L-E-A-S-E RESPOND! Is there
such a thing as a "boat salvage yard" around?

		ANYTHING YOU KNOW WOULD HELP.

Try Marine Exchange on Route 1 (in Danvers, I think). 617-535-3212

The Want Advitisor for May 28 - June 3 had an ad in it for a 24 foot
aluminum mast with a 10 foot boom for $25.00. The person placing the
ad also had some sails. It might be worth a call. The location was
Sherborn and the telephone number was 655-1160.

I would like to thank you for the replies. Just to let you know,
my partner and I purchased a near-new 24' mast and boom at the
Marine Exchange on route 1 in Peabody... now the catamaran is once
again SCREAMING across the water. If it wasn't for that response,
I probably still would be wondering what to do!

Marine Exchange is a fantastic place.
