90.0. "Looking for a slip in R.I." by USMRW1::BRYAN () Fri Mar 08 1985 15:27

I'm new to New England and have just purchased a CAL 25-II. I'm interested
in finding a slip or mooring in Rhode Island (at this late date). So far,
the best I've come up with is Masthead Marina in Warwick/East Greenwich. Does
anyone know of a prettier area with vacancies (Bristol, Wickford, etc.)?
I'd appreciate replies via NOTES or MAIL: USMRW1::BRYAN.

Thanks,

RPR

I've sailed Greenwich Bay and Narragansett Bay, and this year also have
a slip at masthead marina. Narraganset bay provides some nice sailing around
or under the bridges as well as reasonable access to Block Island and Marthas
Vineyard. We like it because we don't have to fight traffic heading for the
Cape on weekends.

We had looked long and hard for facilities, a good slip, and a reasonable
rate. Most of the other marinas in the area will charge about $10/ft more,
won't have good facilities, will put you on the end of a dock to play breakwater
for the other boats, or force you to wait on a list for a year or two.
We were previously at Aponaug Harbor Marina, but when we bought a larger boat
they couldn't handle us.

I thought we got lucky with Masthead, they are building a bunch of new slips
(protected) for boats from 25 to 35 ft and we were able to get one of them.
Give me a call if you want a list of the other marinas, but we went through
the same thing in December when we bought ours.

I'd like to thank all of you who responded in this notes file and via
mail. I was able to get some good leads and learn that where I stumbled
into (Masthead Marina) wasn't so bad.......... THANKS!
