I've done business in person at Foulkes. Their prices are good and stock seemed adequate. They and London Yacht Center seem to cater to tourist trade. Both are within 2 blocks of underground stations. Foulkes has short form catalogs now and then as inserts to Yachting Monthly, which can be found at bigger newstands. EEC goods are obviously the "Best Buys." Foulkes had no problem with an AMEX charge, but you can also get Drafts in pounds from banks that have UK "correspondents" eg Baybank. I also purchased a semi custom sailboat from Oyster in Colchester during the last year, imported it, etc. Took delivery in October in Annapolis. If anybody is serious about such an endeavor, I'll walk them thru it, but it is topic worthy of a long story.

Grant: I would be fascinated in hearing of your experience with the Oyster in terms of pricing due to exchange rates, hassle factots, warranty positions, and logistics. I'll call you.

If anyone is interested, I just got the "marine bible" from Telesonic. Its over 700 pages, and is loaded with good buys. You have to pay about 7 pounds to get it here, so I'd be willing to loan it out in a little while when I've run out of money.. :-) Rick |
