I don't know about the beeper, but I asked the salesperson in SFR
if they supported SMS, and he didn't even know what it was.
Might be worthwhile giving FT or SFR a call and ask them when they
will support SMS, as this will enable you to send e-mail which can
be read in the handset's display. It is widely used in all scandinavian
countries now.

SFR *does* support SMS. I am using SFR and several of my customers use it to
send me messages. Messages are sent using a minitel interface. I am not sure it
there is an email interface as well

Strange that the SFR sales person didn't know about it. When you see
mobiles for sale here, the specifications never say whether or not
SMS is supported by the handset. Anyway, if you send me your number
and can try to send you a message via the internet.

| FYI, you can send SMS messages to an Itineris mobile phone. Check out
http://sms.itineris.tm.fr/
You should also be able to send a mesae directly via email: send email to
<number>@sms.itineris.tm.fr
