4863.0. "alarms send to a mobile" by TAEC::RUBIO (JEAN PIERRE RUBIO - TELECOM ENGINEERING - SOPHIA ANTIPOLIS - DTN 828 - +33 049295 5864) Wed Mar 05 1997 10:02

Hello,

Does any body know of an off the shelf product running under OpenVms or Unix or
Windows which allows you to propagate an fired alarm to a mobile phone or bipper
?

For instance, if we use DECmcc, we can associate an alarm fired procedure via a
command script which warns somebody via the mail, this tool (product) will
forward the alarm to a bipper.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

4863.1SMS will get here one day...CLARID::JENSENWed Mar 05 1997 16:3610

    I don't know about the beeper, but I asked the salesperson in SFR
    if they supported SMS, and he didn't even know what it was.

    Might be worthwhile giving FT or SFR a call and ask them when they
    will support SMS, as this will enable you to send e-mail which can
    be read in the handset's display. It is widely used in all scandinavian
    countries now.

SFR *does* support SMS. I am using SFR and several of my customers use it to
send me messages. Messages are sent using a minitel interface. I am not sure it
there is an email interface as well

    Strange that the SFR sales person didn't know about it. When you see
    mobiles for sale here, the specifications never say whether or not
    SMS is supported by the handset. Anyway, if you send me your number
    and can try to send you a message via the internet.
