HUNGARY'S MATAV AWARDS NOMS PROJECT TO DIGITAL

The Hungarian telecommunications company MATAV has experienced
substantial growth since industry privatization began. In the
last five years, the number of MATAV's telephone service
subscribers has doubled to more than two million and its annual
revenue has grown to over $700M.

At the same time, competition has escalated, decisions have to be
made faster, and the company must prepare for the next stage of
privatization. MATAV needed a modern Network Operations and
Management System (NOMS) that could handle an increasingly complex
    and still growing network environment.

MATAV is implementing its NOMS project in two separate but related
projects. DIGITAL Hungary has won the Switch Related Network
Operation and Management System--covering switch management,
network traffic management, and signaling system 7 (SS7)
management--against competition from TTI Team Telecom, IBM,
Ericsson, Siemens, SEMA Group, and Nortel. (The Transmission
Related Network Operation and Management System will be
    implemented in the second project.)

The total DIGITAL solution is valued at about $16M, of which $2.9M
represents DIGITAL services. MATAV chose DIGITAL because its
combination of technology and services satisfied the company's
business needs as well as its technical requirements.

The DIGITAL solution is based on a TeMIP platform that controls
the switch-related portion of MATAV's whole multivendor network.
    It includes 29 high-performance AlphaServer 4100, 1000A, and 300
systems; 70 Venturis workstations; 150 network devices; DIGITAL
UNIX and Windows NT; and other DIGITAL and third-party software.

The DIGITAL services purchased include network, systems
integration, project and system management, installation and
    maintenance, and training services.
