432.0. "WHo uses PQM ?" by ULYSSE::SOYEZ (CCS/Technology in Valbonne) Thu Feb 20 1997 18:51

    Looks like this Conf is pretty quiet !!!

    Is anybody out there still using PQM ? Does the CCS people still
    planning to use PQM , if you keep some VAX or ALPHA boxes ?

    Do you need any upgrade of PQM onto latest OpenVMS versions ? V7.* ?

    thanks for your help,
    regards

    Marc,

    PQM is still included in the SEPS97 (ex DECstep) platform, which
    has just started roll-out, so I think many sites still use it. In
    Sweden and Denmark we certainly do. The reason it's so quiet in here
    might be that it's been a while since the latest new version, and most
    problems show up at upgrade (or new installation).

    What I'd really like to see is the capability to setup queues using
    telnet and LPD symbiont. Many of our smaller offices have migrated
    to TCP/IP, and don't have any LAT anymore. An other feature I miss is
    to be able to setup two queues to the same Printserver node. We
    sometimes need two different queues, maybe one portrait and one
    landscape, to the same printer. It might be an application that needs a
    special setup, and there is no way to send qualifiers/parameters from
    inside the application.

    There was talk of a version 5.0 running on NT server? Has that been
    cancelled?

432.2In Germany we still use PQMFRIS04::SCHAEFERTue Apr 01 1997 20:0014
Hello,

In CCS Germany we use PQM to setup nearly all of our existing print queues.
There are two exceptions:

   - queues where we have to use the LPD printsymbiont (SAP / R3)
   - special printer connected to NT server

Our hope is, that we will have a PQM version which is able to setup LPD queues
and which is able to run on NT server.

432.3PQM Client on NT only ?ULYSSE::SOYEZCCS/Technology in ValbonneWed Apr 02 1997 12:054
    Would a PQM Client for NT Server be OK for a while ? Or do you plan to
    remove all your VAX/Alpha and therefore need a PQM Server on NT ?

    Yes, I think there will be VAXes available for quite some time yet, so
    server on VAX and NT client would be just fine.
