828.0. "ACMSDI on TCP/IP hang???" by HGOVC::PATRICKNG () Mon Feb 24 1997 05:57

    Hi,

A 16-bit VB application, which runs on Windows NT 3.51, calls a
16-bit ACMSDI.DLL that talks to VAX's UCX host via Netware Lanworks
Place for TCP/IP (16-bit). The VB application hangs when it tries to
    access ACMS server.
    						Netware
    VB 3.0 on WNT 3.51 calls-----ACMSDI.DLL---- TCP/IP--- ACMS Server
    (16-bit) (16-bit) 16-bit

The application running on this environment hangs. We like to know
the work around if this environment doesn't work. We don't know the
current version of ACMSDI.DLL, but the file was created at 9/27/94
    10:59:54 AM.

What version of ACMSdi.DLL support on VB 3.0 and Windows NT for
either native 32-bit TCPIP or 16-bit Lanworks Place for TCP/IP?

Is there a 32-bit version on ACMS Desktop ACMSDI.DLL available?

I believe there are many applications running on WNT 3.51 call ACMS
DESKTOP via TCP/IP. Could someone recommend what the version of ACMS
Desktop and TCP/IP should be used?

    Thanks,
    Patrick

Patrick,

. A 16-bit VB application, which runs on Windows NT 3.51, calls a
. 16-bit ACMSDI.DLL that talks to VAX's UCX host via Netware Lanworks
. Place for TCP/IP (16-bit). The VB application hangs when it tries to
. access ACMS server.
. Netware
. VB 3.0 on WNT 3.51 calls-----ACMSDI.DLL---- TCP/IP--- ACMS Server
. (16-bit) (16-bit) 16-bit
.
. The application running on this environment hangs. We like to know
. the work around if this environment doesn't work. We don't know the
. current version of ACMSDI.DLL, but the file was created at 9/27/94
. 10:59:54 AM.

Sounds like your trying to use ACMS Desktop V2.0 DLLs from Windows 16 bit.
Presumably the Winsock DLL (renamed from ACMSDIWS.DLL).

. What version of ACMSDI.DLL support on VB 3.0 and Windows NT for
. either native 32-bit TCPIP or 16-bit Lanworks Place for TCP/IP?

VB3 came out after ACMSDI V2.0 was released, so you would need to
upgrade to ACMS Desktop V2.2 ECO 1 on both server and client in order
to use the 16 bit configuration. The following public directory
contains pointers to the V2.2 and ECO1 kit/files:

UCROW::ACMS_DESKTOP$PUBDIR:[V22]

. Is there a 32-bit version on ACMS Desktop ACMSDI.DLL available?

Yes, ACMS Desktop V2.2 supports 32 bit WNT 3.51 and W95. The initial V2.2
DLLs were built with 1 byte alignment, however 32 bit applications
like VB4 required 4 byte alignment, so we made these available after V2.2
release as ECO1. In addition, we had to provide an additional helper DLL
in order to work with VB4. See DESKTOP_ACMS notes conference topic #819 (WNT)
and #822 (W95) for discussions regarding these DLLs.

. I believe there are many applications running on WNT 3.51 call ACMS
. DESKTOP via TCP/IP. Could someone recommend what the version of ACMS
. Desktop and TCP/IP should be used?

ACMSDI V2.3 currently in field test and due to SSB in Apr/May will contain
current (V2.2 ECO1) 32-bit support VB4, using Winsock 1.1 mode on WNT 4.0.
If you need NT 3.51/VB4 32 bit support you should use the V2.2 ECO1 kit.

    Thanks,
    Patrick
828.2UCROW::KNEELANDTue Feb 25 1997 14:257
Update to .1:

We will continue supporting WNT 3.51 for the next
V2.3 release due to SSB in Apr/May.
