826.0. "Premature firing of callback routine" by CSC32::J_HENSON (Don't get even, get ahead!) Thu Feb 20 1997 09:28

acmsdi v2.2, ovms/vax v5.5-2, pc/w95, Delphi-32, customized dll

A customer, Wayne Down from John H. Harland, is experiencing a problem
with the configuration noted above. He says that he has a customized
dll, provided by engineering, that he is using. I believe that
the customization is to turn optimization off.

The problem that he is seeing is that the callback routine sometimes
fires immediately after a call to acmsdi$complete_tp, rather than
waiting for acmsdi$dispatch_message. He also claims that he has
disabled the timer in dispatch_message, but the callback routine
still fires.

This problem is similar to the one reported in note 796, and was
originally logged in September of '96. At that time, Dave Carew
of the CSC attempted to reproduce using Visual C++ and a
non-customized dll. He was unable to do that, and asked the
customer for a reproducer. At that time, the customer was unable
to provide this, and the call was eventually closed.

Now he's back, and wants us to work this. I have aked for the small
reproducer, and he will try. However, I do not have the customized
dll nor do I have Delphi-32, so I will probably pass this straight
back to engineering. I'm posting this here to see if engineering
has other requirements from the customer, or other suggestions.

Thanks,

Jerry

Jerry,

The reproducer code sample along with any useful client or server
logs would be very helpful. Also to confirm the W95 DLL version,
please have them supply the DLL file size and creation date.

Please note that the enhancements in this special W95 DLL used to
support Delphi users have been included with Desktop V2.3.

At the present time we do not have a Delphi code sample or header
file and would greatly appreciate any templates that the customer
would be willing to give. We could remove any customer specifics
and have them review the final form before we release it with our
software.

Thanks for asking...

Thanks. I've already asked the customer for a reproducer, but he wasn't very
happy about it, so I wanted to check with engineering and make sure that
it was needed. I've just informed him that we have to have on in order to
proceed.
