822.0. "Windows 95 - 32 bit again" by TAV02::YOCHAI () Thu Feb 13 1997 07:00

    I know this has been discussed in this notes file , But I am not sure
    that I know the exact answer.
    So, What exactly do I need to do if I need to call ACMSDI from
    Windows 95 applications running in 32 bit mode ?
    For Visual Basic 4
    For PowerBuilder 5

    Thanks, Yochai

822.1VB4 and PB5 access to Desktop V2.3UCROW::KNEELANDThu Feb 13 1997 12:1338
Yochai,

Soon to be field tested/released, ACMS Desktop V2.3 will contain
workarounds for using 32 bit VB4 and PB5 in the form of helper DLLs.
In general the Helper DLLs provide the functions (C++ based) needed
to lock down memory and manage 4 byte aligned data.

Both of these 32 bit application based solutions should be viewed as
temporary means to access our existing API given the memory access and
data alignment restrictions associated with using these applications.
In a future release these limitations need to be re-addressed using
better techniques involving tools such as OLE/ACTIVEx

The VB4 helper DLL for W95 was provided after the V2.2 release and
can be found in the attached directory location along with reference
files.

We welcome feedback on our approach taken for VB4 and PB5 and will
consider suggestions for future requirements as well.

Regards,

Colette

822.2What about PB5 ?TAV02::YOCHAISun Feb 16 1997 05:205
    Collete,
    From your reply I understand that for ACMSDI 2.2 and VB4 we have helper
    DLL.
    What about PB5 ? Do we need helper DLL ? Do we have to wait for V2.3 ?
    Thanks, Yochai
822.3PB5 support in V2.3 releaseUCROW::KNEELANDSun Feb 16 1997 17:299

    PB5 also needs a helper DLL and will be available with V2.3
    release scheduled for FT update at month end and SSB in May/June.
    I will post release status and kit availability in this conference.

822.5VB5 - post V2.3 releaseUCROW::KNEELANDTue Feb 18 1997 16:0511
Given the timeframe for V2.3 release (SSB submit in April)
and that VB5 for Alpha is not yet available, we will not
be able to support VB5 as part of the V2.3 release.

We will handle support for VB5 based on demand and availability as a
post V2.3 release work item.

822.6A customer questionTAV02::YOCHAIWed Feb 19 1997 02:286
    My customer asked me the following question:
    Assuming I am using PB5 32 bit,
    Assuming I use workspaces with only Text(Character) data types.
    Could I use the existing PB helper DLL (bundled with V2.2) ?

We have tried this and found that the PB helper DLL must be built
with 4 byte aligned DLLs in order to use PB5 32 bit.

We intend to only support PB5 32 bit mode with V2.3. We will support
PB4 with V2.2 release only.
