Highlights
* Simplifies development of OSF/DCE clients and servers using a simple,
powerful, flexible, and reliable API
* Simplifies deployment and management of OSF/DCE servers in an OSF/DCE
environment
* Management is fully distributed and available as a reliable tool and
API via an easy-to-use GUI on Windows platforms
* OSF/DCE security is used in both the development API and Management
Description
DIGITAL Distributed Computing Solution for Open Systems (DCSO) is a
complete environment for distributed applications. Easy, rapid
client/server application development drastically improves the productivity
of the development team and saves costs. DIGITAL DCSO separates the
underlying communication mechanism from the application, providing
independence from a particular technical choice.
Features
* Integrated development and deployment environments
* Available for
o DIGITAL UNIX (Alpha) Server, Client, and Administrator
o Windows NT (Alpha, Intel) Client and Administrator
o Windows 95 Client and Administrator
o Header files provided for C and C++ applications
* Makes DCE-RPC very simple and preserves its power by the use of:
o Simple Server API -- One unique call to initialize a server; one
unique call to check the client authentication (security)
o Simple Client API -- One unique macro to get server bindings and
call them; this macro handles the failover/failback mechanism
* Extended RPC functionality for mission critical applications -- Load
balancing, failover, failback, security
* Server resolution includes load balancing
* Multi-threaded servers -- Maximum number of threads for servers is a
configurable server attribute
* Multi-process servers for non-thread safe applications (database
applications)
* Distributed management including an activity monitor, a simple command
line interface, and API
Benefits
* Based on OSF/DCE standard
* Preserves DCE functionality and flexibility
* Provides high availability for mission-critical applications
* Provides application deployment and control utilities
* Management is fully distributed
* Can distribute and secure legacy applications very quickly
* Activity monitor -- A single machine can monitor the activity of
distributed applications
*
Selling information
DIGITAL DCSO addresses companies that have made the decision to implement
client/server application development using OSF/DCE architecture and using
DIGITAL UNIX servers and/or the Windows NT/95 environment. This is a niche
product; it is not necessary to promote DCSO on a wide scale.
Availability and ordering
DIGITAL Distributed Computing Solution for Open System V1.1 is available
now from DIGITAL and its business partners. Loaner licenses are also
available for this product.
