Hi,
I have a customer using dce 2.0 on a 4.0b UNIX hosts. The DFS files
that were once available suddenly are inaccessable. The get an error
when they try to access them and I was not able to explain what was
going on.

Here is what the customer is seeing:
When I try to look at directories and files in DFS
copious.llnl.gov> cd proj
dfs: auth helper not running; running unauthenticated.

| The first error code that is seen is 382312711, which means "Helper process
catatonic". Restarting the dfsbind should clear this up.

| I had guessed that the dfsbind was the culprit, but I am _truly_
ignorant about this. How do you restart dfsbind?
In the OSF DFS Administration guide Chapter 5, page 5-1, it implies
that the dfsbind needs special considerations or DCE completely
restarted. How do you do this?

| You need to be "superuser" to kill and restart dfsbind.

| Mark,
I know that their server is an IBM. If they are running v1.3 of IBM
DFS, they need to ask IBM support for the 'PMT' patch to IBM DCE v1.3.
The error that is indicative of this problem is:
